ASHL Nationals 2026 Burnaby

So… Your Team Made ASHL Nationals. Now What?
If your team is playing in the 2026 ASHL Nationals in Burnaby this weekend, first off, congrats because making Nationals is something your team will probably talk about for years, even if half the guys are pretending it’s “just another tournament.”
It never is though.
Nationals weekends are basically what beer league hockey is all about. Hockey all day, terrible chirps, late-night team dinners, packed rink lobbies, and stories that somehow get funnier every single time they get retold over the summer.
We were over at Scotia Barn yesterday and honestly the place is buzzing already. Teams everywhere, guys walking through the lobby in matching hoodies, people talking about games in the parking lot, and that whole “big hockey weekend” feeling you only really get during major tournaments.
You can feel how much teams care about being there.
And if your team is there this year, there’s a pretty good chance somebody on the roster is already saying:
“Alright… if we win this thing next year we’re doing fresh jerseys.”
Honestly, that’s usually how it starts.
Why Nationals Changes How Teams Think About Jerseys
Something about Nationals weekends makes teams suddenly realize they want to look like an actual team again.
Not “beer league random assortment of gear from the last six seasons.”
An actual team.
You notice it right away walking around the rink:
- matching socks
- matching shells
- clean logos
- team hoodies
- fresh jerseys
- teams taking photos together between games
And then you look back at your own team setup and realize three guys are wearing different shades of blue and somebody still has duct tape holding their shin pad strap together.
That’s beer league hockey though honestly and it’s part of the fun.
But once teams experience Nationals, especially a huge Canadian tournament like this, they usually want to level things up for next season.
Because now the goal isn’t just making playoffs anymore.
Now it’s:
“Let’s get back to Nationals.”
The Big Canadian National Showdown Hits Different
There’s just something cool about travelling across Canada to play hockey against teams from everywhere else.
You spend the whole season battling through late ice times and short benches, then suddenly you’re playing in a massive Canadian tournament packed with teams from all over the country.
It feels bigger.
And once teams get a taste of it, they want the full experience next time:
- fresh jerseys
- matching socks
- pant shells
- hoodies for the trip
- clean team photos
- a setup that actually feels memorable
Because honestly, Nationals weekends become core memories for beer league teams.
Even teams that don’t win usually leave saying:
“We’re coming back next year.”
So What Happens After Nationals?
Honestly? This is usually when the ideas start flying around.
Somebody sends a logo concept into the group chat at 1 AM.
Another guy says the team needs black jerseys next year.
Somebody wants a retro look.
Another guy wants a full maple leaf shoulder patch because “we gotta lean into the Canadian thing.”
That’s usually when teams start reaching out to us.
Not necessarily before Nationals.
After Nationals.
Because the tournament gets everybody fired up again.
Why Teams Across Canada Use True North Jerseys
We’re not some giant corporate sports company trying to pump out generic templates.
We’re a family-run company based in Port Coquitlam and we actually live this hockey stuff ourselves. We know what beer league teams are like because we’re part of them too.
We know:
- team managers are doing way too much already
- rosters constantly change
- guys never answer sizing forms on time
- somebody always switches numbers last minute
- everybody wants the jerseys to look unreal once they finally hit the ice
That’s why we keep things simple and personal.
Most teams come to us because they want:
- fully custom jerseys
- real design help
- fast replies
- matching socks and shells
- no template-builder look
- a setup that actually stands out at tournaments
And honestly, seeing teams walk around Nationals in fresh matching gear is one of the coolest parts of these weekends.
You can tell the teams that take pride in it.
Burnaby Feels Like Hockey Right Now
If you’re around Scotia Barn this weekend, you already know what we mean.
The parking lots are packed, teams are hanging around outside after games, restaurants nearby are full of hockey teams, and every conversation somehow turns into hockey stories within about 30 seconds.
It honestly feels more like a hockey festival than a tournament.
For BC hockey teams especially, having Nationals here feels huge because everybody knows somebody playing this weekend.
The energy around Burnaby right now is unreal.
One Thing Teams Always Say After Nationals
Usually it’s something like:
“Alright boys… next year we’re showing up looking way better than this.”
And honestly, they usually mean it.
Because once you experience a massive Canadian hockey tournament like Nationals, you want the whole experience next time around.
Not just the hockey.
The jerseys.
The photos.
The matching gear.
The team hoodies.
The full setup.
That stuff becomes part of the memories too.
Thinking About Next Season Already?
If your team is already talking about next year’s Nationals run, this is honestly the perfect time to start planning ideas for fresh gear before next season rolls around.
At True North Jerseys, we create fully custom hockey jerseys, socks, pant shells, hoodies, hats, and team apparel for hockey teams all across Canada.
And if you’re around Burnaby this weekend, there’s honestly a pretty good chance you’ll run into us around the rink too.
